Dublin Central FF: €115 in the bank!

Bertie Ahern insisted at the weekend that Dublin Central FF "didn't need" the €30k that it handed over to his girlfriend Celia Larkin in 1993.

This is odd for 2 reasons

    1) The Sunday Tribune reported yesterday that the Constituency operation now has just €115 in the bank, leading to grumblings from Ahern's older brudder Maurice.

    2) FF faced a General Election in November 1992, not long before the loot was handed over to Larkin. This election was a disaster for FF in Dublin Central with a significant fall in the FF vote, and Dermot Fitzpatrick losing a seat.

So how on earth could the local organisation not need the €30k ?!

Only one thing is for certain: With only a hundred quid in the bank, FF will not want a by-election in Dublin Central. No wonder they're sticking by him!

Berts priority was to get his own seat over additional seats

this is a lie also apparently, she returned it with deposit interest as opposed to loan interest. we still dont know if it was her that gave it back also.

heard that - every cumann looks after it's own finances - apparantly that's they way it always has been - do the other parties operate differently?

No, that would be as is. In my experience anyway.
There is a degree of trust involved that people are not skimming, but to be realistic, the small village FF/FG cumainn bank a/c would be dealing with such insignificant amounts, were you to rip it off, it wouldn't be worth your while.

think Bertie said it had to be sent to some other account because of the provisions of the ethics act
