Has Bertie told barefaced Lies in the Dáil?

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Transport will examine the recommendations made in the report given to us, but both have already made the point that there are serious questions about the effectiveness of the inspection regime proposed by the commission. We have explained this in detail to it. No other European country has such a regime. There is an issue about highlighting Shannon Airport when there is absolutely no evidence of people, aeroplanes or anything else to do with extraordinary rendition.

There is no evidence of aeroplanes associated with Extraordinary Rendition with regard to Shannon Airport?

Without going into what the EU parliament has had to say about the subject, allow me to quote from an article printed in the Independent on the same day as the Dáil 'debate:'

The aeroplane used to abduct a Kuwaiti-born German man had stopped in Shannon airport days before his "extraordinary rendition".

One should point out that it is the job of the Gardaí to gather evidence, not those who make complaints.

Also in that Dáil 'debate' on Wednesday, Mr. Ahern suggested that the Gardaí have the power to search planes. On the other hand, on the 24th of October, Trevor Sargent, in answer to me telling him that the Gardaí had the power to search planes, said:

I hear a different legal interpretation of that to be honest…

This interview was to do with the fact that I'd interviewed Eamonn Ryan on the day the Greens decided to go into governement and he'd told me that a concession won by the Greens was that:

… the rendition flights in Shannon will be checked.

Of course, by the time of my interview with Mr. Sargent, the "Rendition flights in Shannon will be checked." line had changed to:

The program for government doesn't actually mention search specifically, it mentions compliance with United Nations laws.

Greens seem to have become somewhat neutralised on what should be a very important issue for them. Why do we need climate and planet management if we are going to elide human Justice?
