Ahern planning 'to go on and on'

Asked on radio this morning if he would still be Taoiseach next year at the time of his scheduled address to the US Congress, Ahern said "they can pick any year they like and I'll still be Taoiseach." This is a major shift from his previous pledge that this year's would be his last election. Sorry Brian, he's planning to go 'on and on.'

Following the pay hike, hubris is the word that comes to mind. Remember Haughey said he was aiming to emulate the Chinese leaders who ruled into their nineties?

I hope he hangs on in there.
He's spolied goods at this stage.
Very few people take his excuses regarding his money situation seriously.

    Indeed. From the "Independent"

"Haughey set his own interest above all else. Support declined further as he spurned retirement, remarking whimsically, "Some Chinese leaders go on into their eighties..."

its looking good, with this ego it would be great to see him go to the states and get the humiliation he deserves on a world stage
