Mary Fitzpatrick likely to seek FF nomination for European election

Mary Fitzpatrick likely to seek FF nomination for European elections - Political News | Irish & International Politics | The Irish Times - Thu, Jan 02, 2014

    What a clever move!!
Poor Mary, shafted by Bertie(bad and past FF) going forward as new, improved and "I cannot believe its not FF" FF

    She could do well!
Especially considering there seems to be little other options(??)

Clear sign that believes she has no chance of re-taking a Dáil seat in Dublin Central.

She is a smart operator though. She was able to turn the Drumcondra Mafia thing to her advantage even though she relentlessly curried favour with Bertie Ahern when he was Taoiseach. Just listen to the RTE documentary about the 2 Marys running in Dublin Central. She almost crawls up Ahern's arse at times. At the end when reality dawns that despite the brown-nosing, she has been royally shafted, she blasts Ahern and Brady.

More like getting the name recognition for the next GE although she will of course give a bogus 'commitment' that she will serve the full term if elected a la Alan Kelly.

I doubt if she has the wider County wide name recognition to pull it off. But someone has to win the 3 seats and the SF candidate may as well be a cardboard cutout!

Not sure about the first one. Considering Cyprian "931 first preference votes" Brady is not running, his 2 or 3 thousand votes should be hers.

Paschal will live on, but Joe Costello will be mauled should he come around here. My mother plans on whacking him with a broom, the pompous idiot.

I know a girl who rented the apartment above his constituency office in Phibsborough. He was never there.

It is an interesting choice, and probably the strongest they have.

That said, the polls suggest they are likely to fail to win a seat in Dublin. Fine Gael's support is enough to hold its seat. The remaining two seats would be a dog fight between Labour, Sinn Féin, Fianna Fáil and others. With others a fractured vote spread across many candidates, it would appear likely that the others would get Sinn Féin the second seat. Fine Gael transfers would help Labour, who may outpoll FF. FF's problem is that they may be friendless - with no large group likely to vote for them in transfers. I suspect when it comes down to a choice between Labour and FF a lot of voters won't transfer to either. Tactically, taking the wind out of Micheal Martin's sails may make most sense to some SF supporters, and that may mean enough transfer to ABFF to ensure the challenger to FF, even Labour, may get ahead and win without reaching the quota.

Mary and Tiernan are the only ones capable of getting transfers outside FF. Hanafin would be dead in the water, and this race will be decided on transfers and who is the more transfer-repulsive and who tactically it would make more sense for SF to beat.

Do we have a latest list of potential candidates from each party.. who are Labour likely to go for? Is Emer Costello an shoo-in or will there be another "big name" springing up?

(should know this myself but the head is wrecked)

Personally think if she is interest then FF should grab her with both arms especially considering the alternatives. She was seen as standing up to Bertie and may not be as tainted as others.

It is obvious that she wants to run in the next dail and see this as a means to increase her profile.

I approve. Ideal candidate. We must show we are not a gombeen, insular, greedy, culchie red neck party (particularly when it comes to Dublin) - unlike Fine Labour - and candidates like this send that message loud and clear.

Micheál is storming to victory. His courage and decisiveness is there for all to see. Hence the polls say we will lead the next government comfortably and end this incestuous, incompetent, jobs for the boys "government". Not long now.

And tribunals of inquiry in to this government should be part of the program for government.
