    Mary O' Rourke on Newstalk

I'm surprised this hasn't appeared here today (and if it has in some other guise, apologies)

She conducted one of the most bizarre interviews you are likely to hear with Eamon Keane, coming on to do a typical Lenihan bombastic Bertie gee up but got hoplessly muddled and basically made an idiot of herself.

Keane nailed her expertly on Willie O' Dea's comments.
She twice said that people going around discussing the Tribunal (including people discussing it in "pubs"!) should stop and wait for the final report.
Keane then asked should this apply to Willie also?

She lost it and ended up saying "people should rember that WE set it up and WE can close it down".

Then as Keane was speaking she interjected with (if anyone heard it, please confirm this) what I'm almost certain was "I'm going for a sleep now, goodbye" and promptly hung up,

If this is indeed what she said, it might certainly explain her erratic behaviour.

On the other hand it might simply be a case of what I have long believed about the woman, she is a bit bonkers.

Mary is fantastic - no bull************************ and she is of course mad as a brush. She has no choice but to defend Bertie as her family sold their sold to CJH and are still paying the debt off to Bertie.

Given what they did at CJH's funeral they don't have any self respect left so she might as well sound off.

Was listening myself - I though thats what she finished with that beaut aswell

Surprised that Mary has been dragged into this affair - I would have though that there would have been a degree of pleasure in the lenihan camp at son of CJH's current discomfort. - Keep underestimating the loyalty to the Fuhrer mentality in the chancers of destiny camp!

just comfirming what I've been noticing over the last while - Bert is becoming an object of ridicule - thats far worse than hatred.

I don't believe Mary got dragged in to this at all.
It wasn't advertised or teed up so my best guess is she simply called up off the cuff.

Mary came on and said there was no push against Bertie and everyone was behind him.
Keane then had a perfect oppurtunity to wade in and say "why do you need to say this, I wasn't aware there was any word of a push against him" but missed his cue.

Real "vote of confidence from the chairman" stuff.

Hatred they can deal with by circling the wagons and actually promotes loyalty.
Ridicule leads to loss of authority both generally and within the party.
That is death for any political leader.

Kind of like Enda Kenny's 'Dream on Baby' moment there went the rainbow in that one moment of idiocy.

I thought she was brilliant. Old school Fianna Fail, not like robots like Cowan, Ahern, or Dempsey.

She's make a great president when we are rid of McAleese.

you say she's talented but want to waste that talent on a ineffectual ceremonial role?
