Haughey/Callely Chosen for FF Dublin North Central

Seán Haughey and Ivor Callely were chosen to stand for Fianna Fáil in Dublin North Central last night, after Cllr Deirdre Heney surprisingly withdrew at the last minute.

Heney had topped the poll in Clontarf in the 2004 Local Election, bucking the trend in what was a very poor result for Fianna Fáil nationwide.

It is now rumoured that she may seek election in another constituency in Dublin, or that she has been guaranteed a Seanad seat after the election in return for withdrawing.

According to the IT, she withdrew at the last minute, and then went on to complain about the 2-candidate strategy, saying she would be lobbying hard for a third to be added (ie. her). Why would she say this, if she's planning a move or had been bought off??

If she thought a run in DNE was a sure thing, or if she had been bought of by Ahern, then surely she would have kept her mouth shut?

I think her best chance of A Dail seat is to be Ahern's running mate in Central. The only other alternative is Cyprian Brady- a rather uninspiring candidate, who will onlyevoke memories of his infamous brother's buffoonery.
Only problem is that both Mary Loo and Patricia McKenna (God have mercy on us.....) are both pondering a run here
