Is someone opening something?
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Where's the gombeenism Deep?
Does Ned O'Keeffe have a valid point? He's campagining against the closure of Galtee Meats.

Doesnt Willie O'Dea have a valid point? Last October Martin Cullen said the slots would be kept safe for the Shannon Dublin and Cork.

The fact is both of these characters have red blood in their veins and if they didnt voice an opinion it would be another form of gombeenism. Lapdogism.
Cowardice asks the question - is it safe? Expediency asks the question - is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - is it popular? But Conscience asks the question - is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular;but one must take it simply because it is right. -MLK

could you please name a single private enterprise that changed their minds on a proposed closure, following the intervention and pleas from the local TD/Councillor etc??
This type of nonsense goes on in order that the TD/Councillor can claim to be on the side of the local workers/farmers etc, at the next election. It's pure gombeenism.
wrt to willie o'dea, all i'll say is that i look forward to his resignation on a point of principle.

Willie O'Dea was part of a government that privatised Aer Lingus. He now wants the company to act as if it is still in state ownership. Who is he trying to cod ?

Jerryp. Yeah, I know Willie had his head up his arse when he voted for privatisation not realising the consequences would be on his own doorstep.

But the Govt held a 25% stake in the company for what reason? To allow the CEO of the company move an asset outside the territory of the Irish Republic? Obviously by washing their hands they are Supporting the move.

They are for, market forces, in Aer Lingus going to Belfast, and against market forces when Ryanair wanted to buy Aer Lingus.
They lobbied Europe to prevent Ryanair from buying Aer Lingus on the basis of competition. Which is hypocracy.

Isnt it the tempate of the Govt to replace the Heathrow slots for Shannon with something else? But it is not the template to replace Aer Lingus with Easyjet or BA etc should Ryanair wish to purchase it.

Mary Ninny Hanafin has no authority to speak for the Govt without a cabinet meeting. And that's why Willie is irate.

And Bertie is on holidays. Typical. He'll get what's coming to him in time.

My God....and not a Babe film in sight! I thought this article might have been about Ned looking for 'Babe' repeats banned on RTE.
