    FF leadership contest

The battle-lines are now beginning to emerge and it looks as if it's going to be a straight fight between Biffo Cowen and Brian Lenehan. I must say that Lenehan is hardly a wet week in Justice and already he has started to impress. Also, far more photogenic than Biffo. Think he represents a bit of value with the bookies.

Cowen is far to far ahead. Not even Bertie could stop him. There doesn't seem to be a country deputy that isn't in his camp.

Cowen is also younger which surprises some people...he's a certainty to succeed Bertie. Once the sleazy greasy shallow sly Martin is marginalised I'm happy

It is far too early to say for certain who will be the next leader of FF. If Bertie survives the Mahon Tribunal he could remain as leader for three to four years. Lenihan may emerge as a compromise candidate.

Compromise between who and whome? Cowen doesn't need to take any************************ from any Dublin jackeen. They have had the leadership for too lang. Its going back to where it belongs ie outside of Dublin

Between Cowen and Martin. Dermot Ahearne fancies his chances as does Noel Dempsey.

No chance for any of them. Martin is a nobody after health, Dempsey was in the C+W gang and probably said he'd challenge for leader to secure a nice cabinet job for himself under Cowen. Dermot Ahern was a Haugheyite and that wing has gone with Bertie. Non of them could muster any more than a handful of votes. The only person who can stop Brian Cowen is Brian Cowen...if he decides he'd prefer taking over from Charlie in Brussels. Then my money would be on Hanafin or Dempsey.

Mary Hannafin? As a former treasurer of FF during the Dark Days of the early 90's, she certainly has the credentials of being a FF insider, who knows just where the bodies are buried. As for career, other than posing for photos with rich kids, what has she done? Leaving Cert reform is always "Next Year" with her!
