The rich don't ever spend their own money. That's how they get (and stay) rich. Spend your own money on your meals and flights and you will be a working schmo until the day you die.

Erra sure, yes we can complain about here but the people will just vote back more of the same every time because the Irish lost our backbone post independence.
You know, I can't fathom why there are people hungry in this country and yet we stay at home without protest. No wonder the troika walk all over us.

The records show a pattern of very generous spending in the department during 2010 at a time the State was going through the biggest financial crisis since its foundation.

One of the significant overall bills was for educational courses and seminars for staff. Despite it being one of the smallest department, a total of €107,000 was nonetheless spend on training, seminars and courses. These included first aid; computer courses; French and Italian; protocol training; and various civil servant exams. It also included a spend of €10,000 in course fees for one person attending TCD and almost €5,000 for a staff member doing a masters in Cambridge university. Among the more unusual courses was a humanistic counselling course (€2,000) and a course in counselling/psychotherapy (€4,850). In addition €395 was spent for a one-day course in work-life balance for a senior civil servant.

    ...

Members of the protocol staff within the department were allotted €440 in annual clothing allowance while a small number of other staff received €65 in footwear allowance.
Why did protocol staff get a clothing allowance? Surely being well dressed is a standard part of their job? If so, then why didn't they pay for their own clothes?

It doesn't go down well with the few pints, do you not know a boiled egg can cause terrible congestion!

I was once recounted a story of a new minister who on his first day went to put his hand in his pocket to pay for his tea and buns, needless to say the senior civil staffers put him straight, they are the real problem. Nobody should be getting fed by the state especially those on their kind of money unless you are on foreign business and then if you are getting bed, food and travel you shouldn't be getting sub on top of that.

It's easy increase taxes on people and cut their pay when you don't put your hand in your pocket for anything yourself.
