Micheál Martin and his 'new politics'

Martin has made a song and dance about 'renewal' and 'returning to core values' since he was elected leader of Fianna Fáil this time last year. The problem with this is Martin was in cabinet during the years that the economy was destroyed and the banks allowed to run amok, with the consequences we've all seen. Since then, he has tried to distance himself from this by attacking Bertie Ahern and his predecessor Brian Cowen and attempting to paint himself as some kind of hidden reformer who was lost in the cabinet. The truth is though that during the time they were in office, Martin publicly defended both men, and proved himself to be without any shred of honour by badmouthing both of them and leaving them in the lurch when the leadership of both was either gone or already in trouble. Here's some of his thought's on Berties evidence to the Mahon Tribunal at the time

Much as I sympathise with the sentiments of the OP, does it really need a new thread?

I have a friend who is a member of FF, and he reckons that Mehole is transforming the party from the inside, very quietly, but major change is happening

Hard to reform bugger all if the only TDs you have are a handful of parish pump numpties and you yourself are stained indelibly with being central to the destruction of the economy.

I've never heard it alleged that he was in cabinet during Ahern and Cowen's time.

    Hope this doesn't get out.

The reason I put this up as a separate thread is because there's speculation the Mahon Tribunal will be out within the week, and it's been mooted in the Irish Times that Martin and others are planning to come down heavily on any party member against whom an adverse finding is made. To my mind a separate thread is needed to contrast his actions now with what he did and said when in cabinet.

Don't forget Aherne's supposed distancing himself and FF from the crook Haughey at one conference only for Aherne to give the grave side oration when Haughey kicked the bucket, All smoke and mirrors. FF is a corrupt institution and needs to be wound up.

    And don't forget Taca.

Let's turn this thread into another general anti FF rant with various issues hauled out from the past involving some who aren't even alive.

We haven't had one for hours...

You just don't get it, do you? Fianna Fáil destroyed the country. I don't want more threads. I want senior Fianna Fáil politicians jailed for meaningful lengths of time, ten or twenty years. I want Fianna Fáil members to pay for the damage, by paying extra taxes or having any property they have being sold off.

For some, such as Bertie Ahern, they should be stripped of their citizenship after they are released, and in his case, he can be exiled to Manchester, his true home.

This is not a joke post. This is what I want, and what I am working towards. Will it happen? No. I have some small influence, but not enough.

Should it happen? Yes it should.
