'Our goal is to conquer state power for the Irish working class' Pat Rabitte, 1987
A Genuine question.
The past few years have illustrated that there is very little difference between FG and FF. Indeed M. Martin has pointed out on several occasions that he is happy to support the current coalition government as he feels they are carrying out FF policy.
My question is why do people still cling to political parties as if they were football teams blindly supporting them regardless of policy?
Personally I believe the notion of supporting a party regardless of policy is a nonsense that goes against the core principles of democracy.

Now who is being dishonest!
A poster invoked Haughey, another the execution of IRA prisoners, then the Shannon stopover was brought up, and of course the children.
That was not me. Or Edwin.
The lecturer on morality can't even stick to honesty within a thread! Ha ha. Come on, make up some more stuff for my amusement.

A party's political culture is important as it is something that doesn't just disappear overnight and often underpins policies/decisions taken. We all hope FF reforms and changes but we should never forget just how much corruption was tolerated by senior people within the party for generations or how much damage that institution did to this country. It's important for FF too, not to forget. How can they reform and change with determination if they always just want discussion such as this to be brushed under the carpet?
I know lots of FF members who openly say that FF since the 1960s (some include the FF of Dev) was an outfit that let down its own members and this country. I met a man only a few days ago who spoke passionately of his disgust, as a Fianna Fáiler. All of the party's leaders since its foundation, except Lemass, Lynch and Reynolds were 'badly tainted' to use his words.
Sorry, but until the rest of us ordinary folk living day-to-day with the consequences of FF domination of almost every facet of this country's life, begin to see hard concrete evidence of a transformation, we will remain sceptical.
