Christ Almighty, what a mess - first a lame-brained speech from Enda, then a lamer reply from Martin turning the whole thing into a debate on the budget.

Why didn't FG invoke the act and make sure there would be no replies? A slip up or a tactic to appear open to reply?

Given the general kerrapness of Enda's 'speech' me suspects a slip up.

I wonder will SF do any better - couldn't do any worse.

I think it's only right and proper that they get a right of reply. Additionally, the national emergency was several years ago when Cowen refused to do what Kenny did, and just tell the people that it was going to suck, suck and suck some more. Kenny's speech was not a national emergency one, but rather one of some importance, that deserved other parties view also. I think given Michael Martin's, and the fools left in his party, record in Government, nobody but a fool would listen to a word he says, but I think it proper order that he gets to give his view.

Mostly savings achieved through efficiency and fraud reduction, blah, blah, blah.. No real cuts.

Even allowing for my bias Martin is so far ahead of the other leaders one can sense the intelligent people in the country watching saying to themselves, " Crikey I hope FF get their act together before next election cause I want that man as Taoiseach ! "
