Fianna Fáil opposition to cut in child benefit

The reports that Joan Burton is to cut child benefit payments by at least €10 a month have come as a major shock and worry to families across the country.
Take a look at this video from the Labour Party, posted just days before the general election, which reveals a stark promise from Éamon Gilmore that his party would not allow any cut to child benefit under any circumstance.

Where is the Labour Party on this issue now? Was the speculation at the weekend simply an attempt to 'soften up' the electorate for the budget? If so, it is shameful that the Labour Party would choose to play such a political trick on some of the state's most vulnerable families.
If the reports are accurate, this news represents the utter capitulation of the Labour Party on what it described as its “red line issue”.
Please take a minute to watch the video, then share this with your friends: "Labour will not agree to child benefit cut" says GIlmore - YouTube

I think its clear that FF had a conscience unlike the present government.

I think cuts need to be made but surely not to the most vulnerable in society

That might work better if FF hadn't cut it last year.

If FF (with their crony builders, puppet Regulator and crony banks) hadn't bankrupted the State, there would be plenty of cash to maintain child benefit.

3,000,000,000 every year for Anglo is a lot of cash to make up

I agree with the last statement, and dispair at the first.

It was cut last year by your brother BIFFO.

The real problem it was raised indiscriminately by FF over 10 years without thinking of whether it was affordable or equitable.

This was done for electioneering purposes only.

That statement from Junior doesn't state that FF are opposed to a cut in child benefit. That's not surprising given FF cut child benefit less than 12 months ago. The only strategy open to FF is to shout about "broken promises". That's a lame duck strategy. FF are caught in the vice grip of their 14 year of misgovernance and have nothing to offer the Irish people.

Maybe Barry, your former ministers including your brother could had back , till their 65 they're generous pension's and disappointment money, if ye're so concerned about the little people! Then the government can use this money and cut less off the Children's allowance!
