Not saying it will or won't happen but i am hypothesising as to whether it will be a bad thing for the party in the long-term.

Fergus Finlay said something in the papers today that if the government is out of touch now, imagine what it will be like in 5years time...

The old core FF vote is slowly dying and there can be no doubt that the party has never been as unpopular as it has been during the 29th dail(save during the 1920s).

Also economist Moore McDowell has called this an election to lose as the economic climate for the future doesn't bode well for us Hibernians...

This is bad for FF because the economy is its trump card.

Meanwhile the fruits of the boom are being squandered. FF/PDs have failed to address Ireland's infra-structural deficit or the efficacy of public services and have failed to adequately plan for housing and social development e.g. schools provision. The wealth has not been sufficiently transformed into any long term tangible assets that the country needs to fall back on in harsh times.
The country does not have adequate broadband or a reliable water system in many parts(indeed what has happened in galway could happen in dublin).
Years of budget surpluses have been wasted by throwing money at problems whether it be infrastructural overruns like the port tunnel or the health sevice, at which 14bn is thrown at annually. I appreciate that FFs will argued that the health service is being reformed but reform should have started years ago.
The economy has become dependent on the construction industry(25%) and our manufacturing base/export share has declined due to rising costs. Some of these costs are unavoidable but some are completely within our control via stealth taxes and benchmarking.
Moreover the country is more dependent on oil now than it ever was.

I believe that this lethargy and complacency will be the legacy of the FF/PD government.

If in 5years time people start finding themselves out of jobs, trapped in the negative equity snare and still facing today's problems regarding class sizes and healthcare, then FF will have nothing left to boast about. People will absolutely hate them.
