    FF attack Opposition on economy....again

Fianna Fáil today again attacked the Opposition parties on the economy by accusing them of avoiding debate on the subject and of "doing a con job" on the electorate.

Minister for Enterprise Micheál Martin and Minister for Social Affairs Seamus Brennan continued on from where Minister for Finance Brian Cowen left off yesterday, saying the Fine Gael/Labour coalition's policies would "be bust in three to four years".

    More of the same:

"all you get from the Opposition is something for everyone in the audience,"

"They've promised 2,000 extra gardaí, there's only enough for 1,000 in their budget. They've promised two-and-a-half thousand extra hospital beds. There's only money for 1,000. It's a con job,"

"This will be a very close election. There is a real choice between the parties. For the Irish people this is a deadly serious choice,"

"We're asking the people of the Republic of Ireland which team do they think is better for creating wealth,"

"We (FF/PD's) are proposing innovation vouchers and knowledge acquisition grants which will enable SMEs to develop and bring to market new products on the basis of advanced research. We are also proposing that all institutions who receive research funding develop a more active programme of engagement with SMEs."

You can't blame FG for ignoring an issue they will lose votes on and FF will win votes on thats just politics.

What do you do when your record is so bad, and nobody beleives your future promiese because you broke so many in the past....

Fianna Fáil today again attacked the Opposition parties on the economy by accusing them of avoiding debate on the subject and of "doing a con job" on the electorate.
A con? Like pretending were a low tax economy, cutting our income taxes while sneakin up indirect taxes leaving the tax burden the same.

Minister for Enterprise Micheál Martin and Minister for Social Affairs Seamus Brennan continued on from where Minister for Finance Brian Cowen left off yesterday, saying the Fine Gael/Labour coalition's policies would "be bust in three to four years".
Just like our waiting lists would be gone in two? erh Micheal?
Just like we'd have a metro by 2007? eh Seamus?

"They've promised 2,000 extra gardaí, there's only enough for 1,000 in their budget. They've promised two-and-a-half thousand extra hospital beds. There's only money for 1,000. It's a con job,"
Leaving aside that they'ver already refuted this, I'm sure Pat and Enda are cackaling in their underground cave as they survey they evil plans to break their promises.
I'm sure Enda just can't wait to break two of his key promises and trigger a crises where hes forced to resign in 2011-12 thus ************************************g up FG chances for re-election.

"This will be a very close election. There is a real choice between the parties. For the Irish people this is a deadly serious choice,"
I wouldn't call it a choice, that would imply diffrences between the two blocks, of which there are few, enough tho, to boot you out of office.

"We're asking the people of the Republic of Ireland which team do they think is better for creating wealth,"
Are we? I thought business created wealth? I assume that if FF is reelected they will take credit for any bust just as they did a boom?

If FG thought it could win votes on the economy it would have mentioned it before now.

You must have missed the joint economic document that talked in detail about facing future threats to the celtic tiger (many of which the govt have not mentioned)

I find it very interesting that all FF are in doing in this election is attacking FG and Labour rather then presenting what they will do to make Ireland better like FG and Labour are doing.

FG have already dealt with both of these already anyway.

Might be something to do with the answer they would get: "So why didn't you do it when you had the chance, and the money?"
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." Mark Twain

“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

This latter-day revival of the "reds under the bed" argument by Fianna Fáil is not good politics. The party is coming across as rattled and nervous and is lashing out like a wounded beast. The more they attempt to crank up the hysteria, the less governmental and competent they themselves look; and that is theoretically their strongest card. It would be far better for them to try a little serene disregard for the opposition, languidly swatting away this tedious fly.

It took only a single explosive "Dean Scream" to terminate an already faltering campaign by Howard Dean in Iowa in 2004. Fianna Fáil must not spend these last few days of the election doing a protracted version of the same thing.
