Dara Calleary, ineffective Cowen sycophant says he should be leader as he is young

Dara Calleary a decision dodging sycophant of Cowen's, who got his job due to family friendship with Cowen... has now said he should be FF leader

Next leader of FF should be from my generation, says Calleary - The Irish Times - Wed, Jan 05, 2011
Mr Calleary (37), who represents Mayo, said the leadership should pass to what he called the “Ogra generation”, which had emerged from Fianna Fáil’s youth wing, in a post-general election scenario.

“There’s a group of people in their thirties and very early forties that got elected for the first time in 2007 that have a hell of a lot to offer in terms of rebuilding the party,” Mr Calleary said in an interview with The Irish Times .
    ...
Among Fianna Fáil TDs elected for the first time in 2007 were Mr Calleary, Meath East TD Thomas Byrne (33), Cork South-Central’s Michael McGrath (34), Limerick West TD Niall Collins (37) and Dublin North’s Darragh O’Brien (36).
The guy has been a very weak performer, lots of solid sounding talk, but avoiding all decisions, and famed for constantly referring back to Cowen. That such a vacuous fool, who owes his position via nepotism, thinks he is leadership material, illustrates just how far FF have plummeted.

It's a gimmick that's worked for New Labour and the Tories.

As a panelist on Tonight with VB said, the danger is that whoever it is would end up being the leader for 30 years.

This is the little scumbag who took the government jet from Brussels and then to Bohola to delay an election. A junior fascist.

Well, he does have a point though. How can any current Minister have any credibility as leader of FF in the future?

He's a decent enough sort and to be honest, is about the best Fianna Fail have to offer.

None of the current senior ministers would have any credibility as the next leader of Fianna Fail, because they were in the Galway Tent back slapping, they ignored the poor banking regulation, property bubble and generally were silent while Bertie, Cowen and pals were pilfering the country.

I'd have Callerary above most other people. Cowan would probably support him too, kiss of death I know, but that's how it works in FF.

Calleary was winded when the EPA scuppered his plans for a new, badly-needed road into his home town. The reasoning behind the refusal was spurious, bordering on daft. If he cannot deliver in his own backyard then it doesn't bode well for his leadership prospects.

Perhaps more so then figures such as Brian Cowen?

Anyway I always welcome discussions surrounding the youth politicians of the country. I think Thomas Byrne is a very capable guy.
