True enough. That's the job of Paddy the Plumber....

    Why wouldn't they?

It is in their interests for the the media to raise the ire of the electorate re. Bertie's private life, because they know that the electorate will vent that ire by voting FF.

And why would anyone else do it, given that they could end up in the High Court a la Geraldine Kennedy?

The Opposition need to expose this conspiracy very soon. Poor Bertie is the only game in town at the moment.
I wouldn't be surprised lol. back in Oct/Nov last year, mary O'Rourke spoke publicly and said that the source of the leaks about the 'dig out' money were very close to home.
Yes. I'd forgotten about Aunty Mary's comments... perhaps she meant the Lenihan home ;-)

Can't agree with QT at all though... Bertie looked pretty shook to me on the WIP tonight... in fact I might even go so far as to say he looked "cracked".
He probably is a bit shook up. That doesn't mean it isn't planned.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

i've been thinking about this and accept that it's a possibility - the thought had crossed my mind before this thread started - that FF had orchestrated the whole thing - i almost fell for it yesterday too - i was beginning to wobble and say poor Bertie!

    In any event

i was quite shocked at the performance of the three boyz in Treasury yesterday at the Press Conference -

    Cowen, D Ahern and Martin

The way they left the press conference muttering about Fine Gael was disgraceful - at the very least it was unprofessional - at worst it was TOTAL AND UTTER ELECTIONEERING

Anyone who saw Michael Martin on the Week in Politics, and saw his body language, saw his left shoulder last night and how far it was leaning away from McDowell - as if McDowell was emitting radiation - could see that FF know its the PD's that done them

Disgraceful scenes at Treasury yesterday in light of that - FF have totally lost my respect now (or what I had of it - considering i gave them the vote last time)

I'll have to admit given Bertie is the most cunning and devious and PJ Mara isn't too far behind, the idea had crossed my mind more than once over the weekend.

The simple fact at the minute is that it is time to get back to policies and to telling people the direction each prospective government will take. I think Bertie is guilty, guilty as sin of monopolising the Irish airwaves with this crap when we should be debating the future of this country for the next five years rather than his distinctly sordid past. Can no one in FF just tell him to put it all out there and get back to the game ? Otherwise, this has got to be accepted as a FF PR stunt to highlight their brand and eclipse all others.

The old saying "Better the devil you know ...." seems to be the idea behind FF's current election strategy with their own fire hose of leaks.

Were they planning to go in with SF all along??

And Mc D gained my (limited respect) from his WIP appearance. Clearly being kept in by Parlon & co. He made no effort to hide it either.

But whats bothering me is that is being pushed around by Fianna Fail that the transcripts are "well published [in the press]". No they're not. Anything but. Browne had only seen what was in the papers when questioning Bertie. McD has seen more. Clear from last night. The media are "undermining democracy" as has been said so often, IFF they are withholding documentation. RTE and Indo namely. Legal reasons? get out of that. or this

Absurd. Even commited FF people I know were worrried that these leaks would hurt Bertie. We are in the realm of conspiracy theorists; Man on the moon, JFK asssasination, 9/11 etc.
I remember seeing a documentary about Coca Cola's diasterous launch of "New Coke" which cost the company a fortune, but they made it all back and more when they re-introduced "Classic Coke". Conspiracy theorists alleged that this was the "plan" in the first place! Coke company spokesman's response: "We're not that smart, and we're not that stupid."

    Neither are Fianna Fail.

I think there's a real chance that someone in FF is behind the leaks. And my money is on Albert.
