Fine Gael are more terrified about being out-flanked on the right than anything else. An honest and pragmatic Fine Gael would embrace the idea of an alliance on the centre-right, certainly way ahead of the prospect of losing out to PD Version 2.0. Of course, Fine Gaels' Rural Ireland mob have quite recently scuppered their chances of electoral credibility with their own very public refusal to accept that Kenny is and always will be viewed as a career civil servant with all the imagination, intelligence and energy that such a career evokes. Put frankly, FG don't know what's good for themselves, let alone the country, so don't hold your breath.
