Hanafin floundering on RTE Election Special.

Mary Hanafin struggled to defend her Government's Health strategy on the RTE Election Special. she was very uncomfortable when the debate turned to Harney's policy of the co-location of private hospitals on publicly owned land. FF will surely distance themselves from this vote losing policy before the election.
The election will be so much fun as the PDs and FF fracture all over the place on policy.

have to agree. You could see that hanafin was uncomfortable defending this policy, as she knows your typical traditional FF supporter would be opposed to it.

It really feels as though this party will not be returned to government.

John Gormley spent 5 min talking about policy...then he was asked about electoral strategy....Hanafin immediately accused him of not dealing with policy issues......Think she looks good until she opens her mouth then she reverts to frustrated teacher role.....will not surely be buried with Roche and Cullen for the rest of the campaign.

Seconded factual. When even Shinners like us can consider The Blueshirts and The Champagne Socialists as a marginal preference over a more Republican oriented (supposedly) Fianna Fail, then there must be a recognition that the time is up.

I'll say what I've been saying before though. FG can only snatch defeat from the jaws of victory here. They will never have a more favourable set of circumstances than this in order to take power.

However, there is definately a feeling similar (though, obviously, not as pronounced!) to the Le Pen/Chirac face off, where the electorate voted for Chirac holding thiei noses in protest, simply to keep out Le Pen. The lesser of two evils, as they say.

What I want to see from SF, apart from utilising the solid base of good local work, is a national campaign of the slickness being displayed by FF, FG and even Labour emphasing that Sinn Fιin is a party for whom such people can cast thier vote. Whatever about being squeezed through being shunned (tactically) as a coalition partner (though that is a concern), the sight of us running the the North two weeks prior to the election should, hopefully, nullify the effects of that.

There have been cute sounbites about the negligible differences between "Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum" from Sinn Fιin reps recently, and I want to see that tactic expounded. There is certainly the appetite for it in the electorate.

I didn't see all of it but what I did see confirms what is being said here - she was floundering.

Can Bryan Dobson be trusted to be impartial? He didn't exactly pin Hanafin down and let her ramble on accusing John Gromley of not discussing issues when he had just discussed them and he even asked Dobbo to confirm he had but Dobbo sat there sying nothing.

Hanafin was awful. Patronising school teacher that she is came out. It seems she is going to be the face of FF during the campaign as there are few ministers people are not sick of the sight of.
