Willie O'Dea will top the poll in Limerick at next GE

I know there are a lot of threads on Willie O'Dea and maybe the mods will decide there is no need for another.

The point a lot of people seem to be missing and which was repeated on Pat Kenny this morning with someone from Limerick saying Willlie is a 'Trojan Worker' is that it's highly likely O'Dea will top the poll at the next GE in Limerick.

This will be as much the usual two fingers salute to a perceived bias in the Dublin Media by rural constituents as has happened so many times before.

The bigger your wrong-doing it seems in Irish politics the more popular you are with certain sections of the electorate, particularly the electorate outside of Dublin.

John O'Donaghue will get re-elected without a problem, as will many other rogue FF politicians.

People say certain things about hating FF in polls but come election time, they will still give a 1-2-3 on the ballot paper to their local FFers because they are decent skins who done no-one any harm and who have been victimised by the media.

FF will do well at the next election, because people almost always vote at GE's for the candidate not the party. Coughaln will top the poll, Cowen also as will many more FF TD's. As a party FF are terrible, but they still have strong individuals who do well with the electorate.

Even Bertie Ahern if he stands again would easily get re-elected.

This says more about the electorate in Limerick than it does about O'Dea. If he tops the poll,Limerick deserve all they get or dont get.

In a strong economy, maybe. However, the electorate will have more on its mind the next time around. I suspect there will be a few high-profile FF casualties for their creation and subsequent mishandling of the bust. People like Perjuring Willie and Obnoxious John will probably get re-elected but their votes will fall.

I'm from Limerick and have first hand knowledge of the reasons given by friends and family for giving their first preference to Willie and none of them have anything to do with politics, legislation, or even loyalty to FF. Sadly, people in Limerick always vote for the politician they see out and about the most and who fixes the most lamp posts.

Willie will top the pool once again and may even break his own record as people lodge a misguided protest against our imaginary enemies in Dublin and the media.

    Idiots.

And look at what happened to the Trojans in the end.

In Tipperary, Michael Lowry regularly tops the poll. He is a vote getter just like O'Dea.
In Limerick, O'Dea is also hugely popular, there is huge public sympathy for him as a "victim" and local people are likely to resent how he was essentialy hung out to dry to rescue the FF/Green coalition.
The fact is local people love a cute little hoor who can get things for them.
This is probably not the last we have heard from O'Dea by a long shot.

A certain smug elite seem to look down on voters who don't play ball.

Last year in Dublin, Joe O'Higgins topped the poll at the EU election and that upset a lot of complacent people too.

Why stop at O'Dea? What about Lowry, what about Stagg, what about Morgan? Law breakers should not be law makers .
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

For some bizarre reason, rural people hate the Dublin media.

If a rural politician went into a shop and machine gunned everyone in the shop, and the Dublin media complained, the constituent's of that politician would make a point of voting for him/her, just to stick it to the Dublin media.

That's the main reason we keep getting rogue politicians elected to the Dail and the main reason there is such low standards in the Dail.

Of course if Cowen had any b*lls he would insist O'Dea is not selected at the selection convention before the next GE. That's where he could prove he is a proper leader who puts the country before friends and the party. But he won't do that.

No he didn't. He came in 4th on first preferences behind Mitchell, De Rossa and Ryan

The voters of Limerick East (and elsewhere) need to wake up and break out of the shackles of FF/FG.
