    No it's dictatorship.

This is the argument that is often made for Communist parties and parties in Africa. The opposition will be within the party. It doesn't work and it quickly leads to a dictatorship. One man or group of people will inevitably take control of the leadership and with that the structures of the party.

You need a multi-party system for democracy and history has shown us that. Really it's like everything, you need competition.

The one party state is probably here to stay due to the lack of interest of more than half of the Irish people in how their country is run. Thus the only way to effect real change is from the inside of the organisation that the government comes from, i.e. FF.

There has been a lot of talk on this board over the last year about starting new political parties. This is a waste of time and either:
    a) They will never get off the ground
    b) They will build up enough grassroots over a few years to get a few seats. Then they will go into coalition with FF and game over, none of their supporters will ever vote for them again.

Labour and Sinn Fein are corrupt in their own ways and devoid of any real ideas bar snarking from the sidelines to play to their core supporters who don't live in this century.

    Greens

FG is ideologically similar to FF and almost as corrupt when it comes to planning, nepotism and jobs for the boys. A vote for FG on the basis of trasnformation is delusional at best, it will be business as usual.

I thus contend that a vote for FG is a waste, let it die. Join FF and change it from the inside. A new form of democracy more fit for purpose. Everyone who is interested in politics gets a chance to vote in the ruling party.

    Any thoughts?
Yes. I like your thinking. A suicide bomber. Real change from the inside.

If we could find another Sean Lemass type figure with a cabinet full of experts in their fields. The minister for finance must be an economist who has worked in the real world. Some other cabinet ministers need to have business acumen. No teachers apart from the minister of education. No solicitors or barristers accept for the Minster of justice. No accountants at all.

Halve the number number of TDs. If the Brits can run a country of 65 Million people with 700 MPs, we should be able to do the same with 50. So halving the number of TDs is about 90.

The US is all about local government getting things done and there ia lot of transparentancy on this level with the people.
Congressmen and Senators are not large in numbers either.

Joining Fianna Fail will destroy you. There is no democracy in FF. They don't want new members in Cummains. Just write to your local FF TD asking to join a cummain in your area.

.... The response will be ........nothing.

    They don't want functioning Cummain.

    They don't want functioning Comhairle's

They don't want functioning Dail Ceanntairs.

They don't want debate or policy imput in any way shape or form.

They want party goons who'll follow the sitting TD no matter how retarded the TD happens to be.

FF is a franchise of a Nationalist Brand and that's it.

Take it from someone who knows.
Cowardice asks the question - is it safe? Expediency asks the question - is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - is it popular? But Conscience asks the question - is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular;but one must take it simply because it is right. -MLK
