Bertie Ahern begrudges Obama's peace prize

Obama?s Nobel Prize makes no sense, says Ahern | Irish Examiner

Although Mr Ahern was once thought to be in the running for a Nobel for helping to bring peace to the North, he never won the award.

And in a new interview, he says he cannot understand how Mr Obama won it.

Asked by Time magazine if he felt Mr Obama’s award was premature, Mr Ahern responded: "I just don’t understand. If there’s an award for a person doing good mood music, sure. I’d definitely give Obama two of them. But I thought the Nobel Prize was for great achievements, not just the Peace Prize, but in science and literature.

"I could imagine going in front of the Nobel Committee and saying ‘Listen. I’ve a great idea and I’m going to invent it in two years’ time. Will you give me the award?’ It doesn’t make any sense. In fairness to the man, he’s probably embarrassed himself."

Based on Bertie's recent self-congratulatory form, I can only assume that he is jealous and feels that he would be a more deserving recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Actually, Bertie probably is more deserving of the prize than Obama. At least he isn't presiding over several wars, including illegal acts against Pakistan and Iran.

For once I finaly agree with Ahern but I wonder is the irony lost on him. Well, I say I wonder but really I don't , we know the irony is lost on him.

Without wishing to derail the thread, of course Bertie is right, isn't he always, I was wondering why you say "perjurer".
I know digout also says this, but as we know he probably read some other poster saying it and just repeats it without knowing why, so if you don't mind could you expand on that a little, just enough to include a fact or two if possible.

I am not in general a fan of Bertie, but he does have a valid point.

Also taking the peace process in isolation for Bertie, he did some very good work and is right to make this point, its just that this good work is more or less completly overshadowed by the fact that he messed all the rest up
