Creating a "People's Fianna Fail" bloc within the Dail party to oppose the budget

Which Fianna Fail TD's do you think might be interested in setting up a "bloc" within the parlimentary party to oppose the budget ?

The advantages for them would be that in any subsequent general election, they would be seen as the saviours of the people and the country, and would most likely get re-elected (I know I would give my 1st pref to whichever FF TD in my constituency that brought the government down).

For the party it would also have the advantage of showing that there are some in Fianna Fail who are still in touch with the people, and these TD's would have the chance to rebuild the party and become its next leaders.

So, who do you think might be persuaded to lead the opposition from within the parlimentary party ?

    F.F Tendency

Wouldn't be a runner be like turkeys voting for christmas for T.Ds

The only way F.F can be reformed is if the ordinary members rise up and take it by the collor

and thus stand up to the elected representatives who only have loyalty to their image consultants &

contacts from the vested interests I.B.E.C The I.C.T.U etc

There needs to be a new finding that everyday citizens can have an effect in public affairs and not just

sit back in a passive role. It must and should be that ordinary concerned citizens can make and break political

parites. F.F have always had sizable numbers of very decent people within their ranks. Now is time to find

out if they have enough left.

Oh I think you will see some "people's FF" TDs emerging in the run-up to the budget. The self-preservation instinct will kick in soon

If things turn out as I think they will the Greens will do very well out of this government's remaining term. I expect that maverick FF TDs will become jealous. If they stay true to form goodies for their own constituencies will buy them off. If it's a crunch national issue the party as a whole will cave or hold firm. I think we need a Swiss style system with 26 cantons. Local people would then have to pay more for the costs of the goodies. Might make them think twice. We have an IT or university in most counties - don't tell me it's a thirst for knowledge. Another year or two of boom and work would have started on LeitrimLongford IT, FingalMeath IT, CavanMonaghan IT, LaoisOffaly IT, WicklowWexfordIT, Clare Tipp IT and one for Cork for the minister.

When FF are destroyed in the next election they will blame it all on the Greens. Just wait for it. They are incapable of accepting any responsibility.

    There is a Tipperary institute.......

    Lets face reality.

The OP is a single issue poster, No property tax, that is all they are concerned about.

The country is broke. we are borrowing over 400 million a week. FOUR HUNDRED MILLION.A WEEK.

No matter who is in power there will have to be the following.

Cuts cuts and lots of cuts.
    Increased taxes.

A rework for our tax system to tax more products, services etc to widen the tax base, to remove our dependence on just 2 or 3 single large income sources. That's what is killing us now, we were utterly dependent on property related taxes to run the country when they dried up the country dried up with no money left of stimulus packages etc. If the tax system was broader then if one source of income dried up then its not so critical.

FF may be Muppet's but if you believe that the country does not need cuts and tax increases then your a bigger Muppet.

Uni in Limerick & Galway. IT in Galway. IT in Waterford. IT in Athlone. IT in Carlow.

So Tipp had to have one too. There will be an IT at the bottom of every street before there is a proper bus service.

You are right I am deeply worried by the property tax - because i'm a fairly low waged worker (13 euros an hour) and so it is a really serious threat to me and other low waged workers. What I am suggesting is that there are some in Fianna Fail who understand that and could gain our eternal thanks (and votes) if they prevent it.

I understand we need to raise taxes, but why not corporation tax ? Why is it so sacred that it has to be written into the PFG that it won't be raised ?
