FF TD calls for cabinet reshuffle.

on Today FM,
Thomas Byrne FF TD for Meath East has just called for a reshuffle.

Of course, being FF, and mindful of Party Loyalty what he actually said was "a reshuffle would be no harm." This was following discussion about the reception received while out canvassing

As if Biffo et al. listen to what he has to say. He's a pawn to be rolled out whenever there's a vote on.

He might as well plonk himself on a bar stool at the Dail bar for all it matters. Never a peep out of him either in the Dail or in the media.

Okay, takecn at face value, what would a reshuffle achieve? There is no problem in listing candidates who have to go

Mary Coughlan
Martin Cullen
Eamon O'Cuiv
Noel Dempsey
Willie O'Dea

All of these are worse than useless. We would be better off without them. Cullen and O'Cuiv are passionate helicopter travellers so this wanton waste would be eliminated with their well-deserved rest on the backbenches. Dempsey is just bad. Coughlan is a laughing stock and Corporal O'Dea is beyond embarrassing at this stage.

But who do you replace this lot with?

It's not as if FF is bursting with "talent".

A tad harsh considering this thread relates to an interview he did on Today FM!

To be honest, like McGrath who brought up the issue of legal advice re Molloy, these are questions the opposition should be asking.

Here's a novel idea- how about not replacing them? Combine a few ministerial portfolios and reduce the overall number by 5 or 6. same with the juniors.

God forbid Cowen might even see his ratings climb again...

Switzerland with a much bigger, multi-lingual population operates much more effectively with only 7 ministers.

It's interesting to think that with all the stellar talent at Cowen's disposal that this is the best he can do. Does anyone remember the fanfare when he announced his Cabinet??

I think he should make Dick Roche Tanaiste, maybe bring Charlie McCrevey back in from the cold... Jim McDaid could do with another shot too now that I think about it. Martain Manseragh for Justice. Hmmm.

...
Very true - do we need a defence minister and a full staff to oversee a couple of army battalions and a small squadorn of clapped out trainer jets and helicopters.

Surely could be rolled into another department.

What has O' Cuiv or his dept achieved, besides annoying everyone in Dingle!

Let's replace a couple of incompetents with a few different incompetents, inspiring stuff. Given Cowens last attempt at forming a cabinet I rather he doesn't try again. Thank God he only put Couglan into Enterprise last time round. Who knows what he's liable to do in a reshuffle!
