    Free Tony Taylor Dublin Picket.

On the 9th of August 1971, Operation Demetrius took place in the North of Ireland - hundreds of those deemed to be political dissidents were rounded up and imprisoned without trial in what is widely regarded as the 'official' introduction of Internment.

46 years on, despite the popular narrative that Internment is a thing of the past, the reality is that it is still very much alive and well for Derry man Tony Taylor.

While out shopping with his family on the 9th of March last year, Tony was arrested by heavily armed police and whisked away to Maghaberry, a prison that has drawn international condemnation for its human rights abuses.

Tony, having previously been released from Maghaberry in 2014 after serving a sentence as a political prisoner, was the victim of license-revocation, the reason for which still remains unknown to both Tony and his legal team almost 18 months on.

No fresh charges were put forward in the case and Tony remains in Maghaberry to this day.

On this coming 9th of August, to mark the historical significance of the date, and to draw parallels with this contemporary case, the Free Tony Taylor Dublin Campaign will be holding an information stall and picket outside the GPO at 6PM, to raise awareness of Tony's case and to demand his immediate release.

We welcome all those with an interest in human rights to join us on the day, though this is a fully independent campaign so we ask that no party-political material is brought on the day.

Thank you for the support and we will see you all on the 9th of August.

Relevant banners only, placards and banners provided on the day.

No. He was out with his family buying ballet shoes and pink tights for his son daughter as well as berries for a raspberry fool he was planning as a treat for the family at lunch. At the time of his arrest he was so shocked that he dropped the bag of avocados he'd bought in preparation for the dip which was to be the starter
