What does it achieve? 131 people arrived from Greece today. We're told they're Syrian refugees, but there's no proof of who they are. How many houses are needed to house them and why are the people behind this Occupy stunt not protesting that 131 migrants will be housed ahead of all the homeless Irish people?

Those people could afford to pay thousands of euro to people traffickers and Greece is not a war zone so there's nothing to flee from only flee to a life time on the gravy train in Ireland, in a few years the government will pay for them to be naturalised. Then they'll be entitled to even more than the homeless Irish folks.
Why don't you get up off your swiss and protest yourself?

We have a serious housing crisis, thousands of empty places all over the country, fair dues to these people for doing what they have.

This is totally irrelevant to what you refer to.

I agree with you that the housing demand should be met through building proper house. None of the people who will be crashing in Apollo House will get any such houses, and if they did would not be able to maintain them.

That is why they are on the streets in the first place.

And now they have the option of not being on te streets and have a support network and no cost to the state. If it saves one addict surely it's a good thing

I understand that homelessness can be incurable for some people but not a good enough reason not to do something about it regardless of the failure rates.

    Right.....

All similar ventures have ended in disaster because of drugs, drink, sexual assault and violence.

These people are undoubtedly well-meaning. But they are not qualified or equipped to run such a venture. Properly run hostels are dangerous enough, never mind this.

Fair play to them if it works.

I agree with Seanie that some people are on the street because of their own degeneracy, that goes without saying or should do, however in other cases people have fallen into degeneracy from being on the street.
