We have recently had a very "engaged" discussion here on P.ie about the Holocaust and the rejection of it's veracity by the Hamas movement in Palestine. Given that "heat" I thought posters/readers might like to know about this event, those who wish to attend might let us know what it was like?
The Holocaust Education Trust are hosting a public lecture by Prof. Deborah Lipstadt of Emory University in the Swift Theatre, TCD at 1pm on this Wednesday the 22nd.

The HET promotes Holocaust awareness as a contribution to educational and cultural programmes that address issues of racism, bigotry and prejudice. While the Trust concentrates on educating young people, many programmes are suitable for all ages and all walks of life – learning from the past lessons that are relevant to our lives today.
Prof. Lipstadt came to wider public attention for her role in countering the writings of David Irving, who sued her and Penguin Books for libel. Lipstadt had accused him of deliberately misrepresenting evidence to conform to his ideological viewpoint. English libel law puts the burden of proof on the defence, meaning that it was up to Lipstadt and her publisher to prove that her claims were substantially true. Which she most emphatically did.
Earlier today, Bouchier-Hayes interviewed her on Drivetime, during which Prof Lipstadt revealed that she is opposed to laws against Holocaust denial and prefers to counter deniers with evidence and reason.

should have it, (about 17.30) when RTE get around to updating the site, it was worth hearing, her views on Internet discussions of the Holocaust were particularily interesting, given what we have just gone through here.
