Poll: Stability Co-ordination and Governance in EMU Treaty.

The treaty on Stability Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union was agreed on 30.01.12 and is to be signed on 1.03.12. The treaty title shortens to SCGEMU.

The treaty text is accessible here .

The initial and subsequent drafts are available here and here and here.

    BBC Q&A here.

The EU fiscal draft treaty: in full - Telegraph

    Edit:

Also on that site is a useful discussion of some key issues -

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/f...ey-issues.html

With a title of 'The treaty on stability, coordination and governance in the economic and monetary union', it does not really trip off the tongue.

Someone one on the Vincent Browne thread lastnight said that Pearse Doherty claimed the Irish goverment insisted on this. Is this true and if so why?

Didn't hear it and don't know if it's true, but if it is, could it be so that the people will say 'yes' if asked...

This Treaty shall enter into force on 1 January 2013, provided that twelve Contracting Parties whose currency is the euro have deposited their instrument of ratification, or on the first day of the month following the deposit of the twelfth instrument of ratification by a Contracting Party whose currency is the euro, whichever is the earlier.
I know where they got this bit from...

Twelve shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be
Twelve. Thirteen shalt thou not count, neither count thou Eleven, excepting
that thou then proceed to Twelve. Five is right out. Once the number Twelve,
being the Twelfth number, be reached, then ratify thy Holy Treaty of Fiscality
towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

    Getting blackmailed into signing documents?

    Getting blackmailed into voting 'Yes'?

Blackmail, the modus operandi of the 'respectable' classes.

What would your plan to get people to vote for it be? Such a clause locks us in and makes the options pretty stark for us all. May not be a very democratic way of going about things but it may be a clever plan. Or an evil act of piracy, depends on your view.
Either way you can see the attraction for the goverment Would completely out flank the opponent who might argue we can continue as we are if we vote no. Clever if not very honourable way of doing it.

mmm It's not exactly the Gettysburg address.

The German view that economic growth can only be achieved through austerity is writ large. There is no good news in this for Ireland. Be very careful Taoiseach and Tanaiste. This is your first big test.
I care about all sorts of crap.

Maybe they want people to vote no so that they can start doing the necessary cuts?

You are a fascist, lets make no bones about it.You may get your yes vote this time but undemocratic bullying and fascist tactics will inevitably lead to a response. That response is likely to be violent.
