Swedish MEP looks to overturn Irish blasphemy law

RTÉ News: Swedish MP criticises Irish blasphemy law

Now, I think this law is a bad joke, as do most grown up people.
But it is surely not the place of Swedes to be dictating Irish law?
Is this the brave new EU that is envisaged by Lisbon, where random Europeans decide what our laws should be and what they shouldn't be?

Well we've been letting an Italian organisation run our society for so long why shouldn't the Swedes have a go?

    Could hardly be worse.

Writing in the EU Observer, the Swedish MP said the new law was inconsistent with human rights laws under existing EU treaties.
If this is true, then it’s not a Swede who is dictating what our law should be, as we signed up to these treaties in the first place.

It's wonderful how europhobes get so worked up and taken in by these silly-season stories. Just for the record, the EU has no role in this issue. The Swedish MP is looking for a little publicity and you've fallen for it. Congrats my gullible friend.

Did Swedish politicians not voice concern over another area of Irish law recently?

Its a relatively legitimate position. The topic is religion and even if his comment is in jest, it's also justified in its observational quickness.

Well at the very least, it looks like he is taking stock on the possible impact to his own citizens, a thing that our own politicians do not give a jot about us. We have to shame our own Politicians to reverse policy decisions, ie Medical cards for the over 70's.

After reading the article, he has only made a criticism about it, it doesn't mean he has the power to change it.

I mean, a lot of us here have given out about it and done nothing... I for one do not like this law, I find it offensive and a threat to real democracy in this Republic.

Just my opinion, I am not attacking you, so please do not take it personally! Thanks
