Do you expect that you should be imprisoned for standing up on issues pertinent to women?

If you imagine that a theocracy known for violent putdown of dissenting voices, including those of women writers,
intellectuals, activists, film-makers and journos is not utilising that exact type of repression against its guests such
as Saberi and Reiss then you are utterly politically naive and inacapable of judging each case on its merit.

    2. Disinterested in human rights.
    3. Led by a 'President' who has plenty in common with his old rival George W Bush in that their election had to be sanctioned by a 'higher' power. Neither, in my opinion, won anything.

Any attempt to bring down this dictatorship is to be applauded and one could even say that the onus is morally on the US to foster revolution seeing as their idiot support of the brutal Shah led to the rise of such scum as Khomeini to preeminence.

Iranian people are, by and large, ready for a change it would seem. The Revolution, like so many, merely replaced one brutal dictatorship for another. The average person is still oppressed, but hey, they rile the US and Israel and thats worth a lot to some people.

Nevermind the torture, beatings, censorship, rapes, intolerance etc., so long as they are sticking it to the US then its all good, yeah?

Bagram. Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib? Teaching other people about democracy and good treatment of prisoners?

Obama is "thinking about" an investigation into the case of more than 2,000 Afghanistan prisoners who were shut in containers until most died of heat and then fired them full of bullets.

I don't support any form of religion, or the Iranian government, but it is their own elected government (all elections before this one have been accepted as reasonably well run) and they must be left without outside interference to work things out for themselves. Why don't you people ever ask yourselves how come Mousavi declared himself winner in a big press conference long before the count was over?

This woman was a nuclear scientist supposedly working as a teacher who provided written reports to the French Embassy.

To be honest, this whole thread makes me want to throw up.

Theres nothing contradictory mate... You dont know anything about me other than perhaps that I come here and post with my original name and kick your butt with no fear from the likes of you and a dozen other bafoons on this forum... That should tell you something about me but you obviously dont get it...

As for you... Well lets just say that a lot (and I mean a lot) of people here know you as a scumbag... working hard as Uncle Sam's dog... That rabied part of Uncle Sam that goes around killing women and children and men for no reason other than they are Muslims... You are someone who talks about insulting women wearing hijab and then you have the audacity to talk about women's rights...

Its obvious that your engagement on this topic of Iran has nothing to do with women rights... Be clear about your intentions and motivations and dont try to be something which you are not...

    Peace
I see there is a lot of anger doc. Go out and get a breath of fresh air. Being stuck in a dark room listening to Salafi preachers isn't good for the nerves.

Do you know what makes me want to throw up? People who will believe absolutely anything bad about the US and who refuse to condemn human rights abuses wherever they occur whether Evian, Guantanamo, Insein or any other trip off the tongue name. Especially when the prison wardens are seen to be giving the US the two fingers. Either it is wrong to imprison people for no reason or it isn't.

Lets get one thing straight - I DO NOT SUPPORT THE USA.

I DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR INVASIONS OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.

I BELIEVE THEM TO BE GUILTY OF WAR CRIMES.

I BELIEVE THEM TO BE GUILTY OF GROSS VIOLATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ACROSS THE WORLD.

I DONT VIEW OBAMA AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN ANOTHER US PRESIDENT, HE SPEAKS MORE ELOQUENTLY THAN HIS APISH PREDECESSOR, BUT THATS ABOUT IT. LITTLE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO INTERNATIONALLY.

Now can we quit the whataboutery? For that I believe the above about the US, I would still rather live in the US than Iran.
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.

l had Abu Ghraib smacked onto this thread : http://www.politics.ie/foreign-affai...rth-korea.html . l have written on women's rights here, on blog and on the interweb. There is *no* connection between Clotilde Reiss and the vagaries of Bush'te foreign policy in this issue.

Lost her job when the Shah was chucked out?

Still good to see you care about the women.

I have no time for the phony feminism that is used as political leverage against governments one would like to see overthrown.
