I'm actually on holiday next Friday. But we can do your O'Connell St experiment right here, if you're on for it.

Can you spot the foreigners? I might have asked you this before...
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

When I return to Dublin from elsewhere in Europe I still find it amazingly white.

I should also add that I'm afraid to meet you, because I think you might be a bit odd. As it happens, I had a disturbing dream last night where you touched me improperly. I don't know what you look like in real life, but in my dream you had a scraggly grey beard, thin hands, long tobacco-stained fingers and sharp, cruel fingernails. Am I close?

Yes, after being in London, Paris or Amsterdam you expect every second face to be brown. I guess they just have a few years start on us. Just give us time Factual and your dream will come true

That's what happens when you repress stuff.

Mary Lou has today taken on Jim Allister's negative attitudes towards migration from Romania and Bulgaria.

Jim Allister warned there would be a fresh flood of immigrants when Bulgaria and Romania join the European Union next year because of the open door policy the government operates towards citizens of other EU countries.

His comments were branded unacceptable by Mary Lou who said:

"We must embrace those who come to Ireland in the same way and at the same time work to combat exploitation and discrimination against migrant workers. The twin problems of exploitation of migrant workers and the displacement of Irish workers are ones which government, policy makers and the trade unions must effectively deal with. It is unacceptable that all across Europe worker is pitted against fellow worker based upon how little they are prepared to work for or the health and safety standards they are prepared to accept. Jim Allister`s insular and mean spirited views on the issue of immigration are consistent with his party`s inability to share power with nationalists and republicans in the six counties. The Irish experience of immigration has been overwhelmingly positive with migrant workers contributing to society and enriching the cultural fabric of the nation. Mr Allister should recognise this and support the free movement of workers across the EU whether they are Irish, British or Romanian."

I am glad to see Mary Lou taking a strong and crystal clear approach on this issue.

It is a strange day when the DUP are protecting Irelands (at least the 6 counties) interests better than Sinn Fein.

I think most of Ireland, Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter, would agree with Alistair on this.

Of course the DUP should know all about the dangers of excessive amounts of unassimilated immigrants.

    From exactly where in Europe?

Perhaps compared to a London or Paris but like say a Warsaw or Budapest?
