"Gay marriage rights not a competence of the EU" - Caroline Simons

Caroline Simons has outdone herself again. Her gross and staggering incompetence on EU law and its institutions seems even to have dawned on the lady herself, judging by her U-Turn during a radio debate yesterday.

Having insisted now for over a year, along with the rest of the right-wing "No" crew, that the Charter of Fundamental Rights would allow the EU to intrude into issues such as marriage, she has now admitted that this is not in fact the case.

Debating other Dublin candidates on Today FM last night, she was asked her position on gay rights and gay marriage FIVE TIMES by Matt Cooper, and refused to answer on each occasion - insisting that she didn't have to answer the question since it was not an EU competence, and therefore an issue for member state Governments. When asked by Cooper what her position would be in relation to any Irish Government moves in this regard, she again refused to answer.

But of course, we all know what the answer would be - which is exactly why she wouldn't answer.

Caroline Simons has turned out to be an absolute joke of a candidate, as many of us predicted from the off. She is completely incompetent on all aspects of EU law (incredible, since she is a solicitor), and absolutely unfit to be an MEP. Worst still, she is a homophobe, and WORSE STILL, she was afraid to admit it on Live radion yesterday - preferring to do a complete U-Turn on her stance on the Charter of Fundamental Rights in order to dodge an awkward question.

I don't agree with the contention that she is a homophobe. And as a gay person, I think I would know..

I think she feels it should be left to the member states. That's her view on abortion, though she personally opposes it too.

Why is it relevant? As long as she isn't inciting violence against homosexuals I don't care.

Libertas have no official view on homosexuality but they do not support gay marriage....they run from the topic at all times I suspect becauseof their financing sources...when I asked a canvasser she said they support family....whatever that means????

This woman is a classic example I have no problems with gays as people but do not let them undermine Holy catholic ireland
