Quote me another candidate's leaflet that spends 50% of the space devoted to them telling us how many kids they had, and I'll gladly add then too.

Mooney has it a few times in his leaflet that he stands for family values, etc. And how does one devote 50% of their leaflet talking about her kids? I would find that tedious in the extreme.

At least Simons has the guts to stand up publicly for her beliefs as evidenced by her work for the Pro-Life Campaign. It also takes a lot of courage to put your name before the public on the ballot sheet.

I haven't seen her leaflet but what I do know is that she is a good candidate. She has great legal expertise and a proven track record of effective public performance as was demonstated during the Lisbon campaign. She also has a healthy attitude to the European Union.

If we're going to elect officials based solely on their fecundity, there's no need for elections; let's form the Dail from the women with the highest number of children.

Strangely enough, she isn't running on a pro-life platform. Are you saying she is?

If not, then how does that show "guts"? As Geekzilla says, she certainly didn't have the "guts" to list this on her own leaflet! She could have easily fit it in by removing an attack or two on her opponents.

Well, she has - by which I mean she spends almost no time talking about herself on her leaflet, instead, devoting the majority of space on it to attacks on her rivals.

Of the small remaining bit of leaflet where she talks about herself, 50% of that is devoted to enumerating her offspring.

Which could be said of every other candidate.

I don't think anyone is saying there's anything wrong with it, just that her pamphlet seems a bit thin - everything apart from her being a mother of 5 is criticism of her opponents, no mention of her political skills.

I said she already has stood up for her beliefs. We already know her calibre. She has vastly more integrity than the majority of our elected representatives.
