Libertas anti-immigration policies front page news in Poland

The Gazeta Wyborcza has a front page story on Libertas Ireland's anti-immigration policies, as outlined by Simons last week, according to this Irish Times blog. Ironically, Libertas Poland is campaigning to remove the remaining restrictions on new member states as regards the free movement of workers in the EU.

Smyth writes that "Libertas have decided they must plumb the depths of populism to stand any chance of making an impact", however, I would have thought they have plumbed the depths of populism from the outset.

Any Libertas poster here able to tell us what position a future Libertas group in the European Parliament would take on the free movement of workers?

Caroline Simons out-does herself again Is there no limit to the gross incompetence of this brainless woman?

This looks like it could knock Libbatass off its towering height of 0.8% of the vote......

Do you think it is her own idea or that of Crosbie? Either way, it seems crazy to try and peddle that type of policy in a 'pan-European party' with candidates in the the new member states.

Well, not necessarily. It would work well if they were telling voters in Poland: "Vote Libertas - close your borders to the hordes of Irish spongers!"

But something tells me they're hardly doing that.....

Not just Gazeta Wyborcza, but also Rzeczpospolita (Libertas kontra Polacy - Rzeczpospolita), Zycie Warszawy (Libertas kontra Polacy - ?ycie Warszawy), both with the headline 'Libertas Kontra Polacy', Libertas against Poles, and TVN24, a major Polish 24-hour news channel:

'Partia Ganley'a nie chce polskich imigrantów' (Ganley's party does not want Polish immigrants)

    Partia Ganley'a nie chce polskich imigrantów - Polska - Informacje - portal TVN24.pl - 18.05.2009

Considering that there are 127 candidates on the Komitet Wyborczy Libertas (Libertas Election Committee) lists in Poland (www.kwlibertas.pl), this is going to do them much more harm than good.

For some reason, there still isn't a direct link to that Polish website on the main Libertas site.

Surely they're not trying to hide their Polish candidates (including members of the LPR) from the rest of Europe?

"Vote Libertas - close your borders to the hordes of gay, muslim, jewish Irish spongers!"

I think it underlines what I have said about them only being in the same party on paper. It is clear that apart from Lisbon, they disagree on many things. Polls have consistently shown the Irish people want restrictions reimposed on the Accession states. Not because of racism - but because the jobs aren't there and the country can't afford to provide for 7,000 additional foreign-nationals coming in per month.

Now that is a catchy slogan for Libertas Poland (if I understand it correctly):

    'Libertas against Poles'

I wonder if central HQ in Dublin has already got the stickers printed in Polish (Libertas kontra Polacy) to send on to Warsaw?

Ah, it's muppet boy trying to defend his new beloved. Saying that they're only the same party on paper as Libertas Polska doesn't wash FT.

Here's what Libertas say about themselves:

Brussels, May 18th: Libertas, the pan-European people’s movement for a democratic, accountable and transparent European Union, is to-date backing 613 candidates for the European elections next month. This makes Libertas the single largest group ever to run for the European elections.

488 of the 613 candidates are running directly as Libertas candidates. A further 125 are running for parties with which Libertas has formed alliances. France, Spain, Italy, Poland and the UK have the highest number of candidates.

So they're 'the pan-European people’s movement for a democratic, accountable and transparent European Union'?

Well they've been exposed to a bit of transparent democratic accountability in Poland now.

Let's see how they like it.
