    Ryanair check-in is a schengen check-in

It is interesting to note that Ryanair’s checking of home self-generated computer check-in document is not verified too closely at boarding gates at Dublin airport because Ryanair is not too bothered with /not aware of the new Schengen regulation. If so, Mr O Leary is due to get a warning over my recent '(mis)behaviour'…………….
Schengen now requires that ALL arrivals from outside Schengen provide full details from their passports to be entered automatically on the SIS database with information on arrival AND on departure. Recently, this was confirmed to me by the PAF (Immigration control at French airports) who interrogated me when it was discovered by airport authorities that I had used an incorrect number taken from my passport. Finally the police let me leave Schengen, with minutes to go before my flight, having entered the correct info ON the SIS database.

SIS thus knows when and where one arrives and departs from Schengen. This is quite acceptable for arrivals from non E.U.. (foreign countries) but very suspect where it concerns arrivals of citizens of fellow E.U. member states -from these same E.U. states- who (should) have full freedom of movement to travel freely to and from any country of the European Union without being documented.
For over two years now ALL arrivals in Schengen-Spain have to provide exact details from identity documents before departure from outside (air)ports and most Irish people seem more than content to comply with this repressive regulation...

In the case of internal travel within the Schengen 24 (countries) Ryanair and all other airlines CANNOT ask for any details whatsoever on a traveller’s form of identity document and certainly cannot ask about dates of birth, date of expiry etc.

Do posters accept that it is reasonable for us to accept this treatment as effectively it has to be deemed second class? It begs so many questions on the security of information on SIS? How long is this information kept? Does it go against the spirit of the rights of citizens of Union member-states? etc. etc.

Please note that if a country is IN Schengen then there is NO documentation whatsoever on a person's movement within the territory.

Ireland and the UK opted not to fully join the Schengen area.

It's creating all sorts of havoc, including the refugee crisis in Northern France as people who have been refused access to the Schengen area seek to enter the UK which operates its own independent visa and immigration policy. i.e. they get to try again.

Ironically, the UK Tabloids put this down to refugees finding France so disgusting that they have to leave and blame France entirely for the crisis.

simple solution - we join Schengen
FF solution - ignore the issue and slavishly follow the brits (remind me, what was the fuss in 16-22 all about?)

Going on a wine cruise to Cherbourg recently. Arrival in Cherbourg to be greeted by a policeman checking passports with a soldier standing a few feet behind him with an evil looking machinegun in his arms. Same treatment on the way out but this time the soldier was a young lady looking incongruous holding the same lethal equipment. Also arrival back in Rosslare with immigration police followed by customs checks (including dog).

Its easier to get into the States. I think its time we joined Schengen.
