Poor debate, low on substance

I watched the stream (poor quality). Big debate this was not. Big waste of time it was. This was poor and turgid stuff.

Ganley is cringeworthy. He managed to sit their for two hours without answering one question he was asked. His statements verged on vomit-inducing - again with the 'I am a hero' droll: how this stuff doesn't embarrass Cookie, I don't know.

There could be no discussion on substance because Ganley clearly still has none. Ganley failed (again) to outline any policies, any concrete vision or any alternative. The moderation was appalling to let him get away with it.

On the flip side, 'Le rouge' is a shadow of his former oratory self - although English is about his 4th or 5th language...so not so easy to go head to head with the red-faced Mr Ganley.

Thankfully Ireland almost beat Italy in the footie after!

Given that the majority of the crowd were commission staff, who had more untruthful statements to make about Libertas than they had questions of Cohn-Bendit. Given the hostility of the crowd I think he quite well.

The moderation was terrible, I'll agree with you there. But there was substance to much of what he was saying.

I think the crowd got more hostile when Ganley started making snide comments about "being on the payroll of the EU" to audience members, although he may have lost them earlier with his attempts to slur Danny the Red with some really old news.

Some would say that observations on Libertas' very poor transparency record are unarguably relevant - and the possibility of Ganley being more concerned with US interests than European ones, whether one believes it or not, is equally relevant. The stuff Cohn-Bendit wrote a generation ago about children, on the other hand, is straight ad hominem smear - "don't listen to my opponent's politics, people, he's a kiddy-fiddler!".

It is now the second time I have heard him fart on about medals - the first time he claimed New Orleans gave him a medal, last night he said it was his staff. Either way, who gives a crap? Who gives a crap that his grandmother picked potatoes (another gem he continually rehashes - no pun)? I still gather potatoes!

Seriously, he said nothing different last night than he did when I first heard him almost 12 months ago. The difference was that last night he had an audience that could see through his hollow populist drivel.

We need a new politics in Ireland but this red-faced man is not the answer. He continually restates that he does not want to be a politician. However, he has certainly learned the politician's knack of never answering a question.

That doesn't detract from the fact that it's true. People like Cohn-Bendit and several posters on this site persist with this bullsh*t about the Polish league, about the CIA, KGB blah, blah, blah... and do so as though it was fact but without ever offering a single shred of evidence to back up this nonsense. Then we get a smartar*e like you with your funny pictures or Ibis with his trite under-the-radar jabs at Ganley but none of you will admit that half of the attacks leveled against Ganley are based on fantasy.
