No Crucifixes Please, There's Atheists Present!

Organisations which hang crucifixes on walls could be sued if they upset atheists under equality laws proposed by the European Union. Any group offering a service to the public, including hospitals, charities, businesses and prisons, would be at risk. Legislation may also allow Christians to bring an action against a hotel if it displayed something they deemed offensive - such as a poster for the 1979 Monty Python film The Life Of Brian.

Hey guys [baldur and setanta] you should train your other hand in a different skill ... or have ye lost the use of your eyes too? Next time I want ye to search for your own sources.

    Yet another unbiased source.........

Why don't you give us a link to the actual proposed directive and we can have a look first hand at its measures.

The Christian Institute - yes, that's a source without a pretty obvious agenda isn't it? Incidentally, even their article (that you link to) makes no reference to the utter bollox that the Daily Mail alleges. Why not provide a link to the actual directive and we can all discuss the original source?

We don't know yet, since none of the sources link to the Directive, and it's unlikely that anyone quoting those sources has bothered to go off and read it themselves.

It strikes me as fairly standard scaremongering, though, so I would assume in the absence of the Directive that this is the usual business of taking an extreme interpretation, extrapolating it to the point where it would be laughed out of court, and claiming it's "inevitable" and "obvious".

Having said that, it's pretty likely that an equality directive that includes religion as a criterion is going to prevent religious institutions from doing exactly as they please in the name of 'religious ethos' - and that's clearly the real issue here.

It's neither, it's just another makey-up story about the EU from the English nationalist gutter-press.
