Ben Dunne may run for European Elections

BEN Dunne has admitted he is still considering throwing his hat into the ring as a candidate for the European elections.

The high profile businessman was an opponent of the Lisbon Treaty before the referendum last year.

And he told the Herald he would contest June's vote for the European parliament if the Irish electorate says 'No' again in a re-run of Lisbon

Businessman says he might run in European election - National News, Frontpage - Herald.ie

I have to say I have a huge amount of time for Ben Dunne. Personally I would love to see him run.

If he doesn't run for the European elections I would love to see him enter national politics.

I'm sure he realises that there won't be a referendum before the elections?

I would also like to see him run.

    Who? Den Bunne?

    Great.

Sigh... I guess the Irish people are only too willing to vote for cocaine-snorting cute-hoors.

Why can't we expect higher standards from those holding public office?

Probably not, he's distanced himself from Libertas frequently and holds little respect for Declan Ganley.

No, he said he would run as an independent. Which would obvioulsy cause problems for any Libertas candidate in Dublin as both they and Dunne would be pro-europe/anti-treaty canidates seeking the same voters. But I do have a great amount of respect for him and would love to see him become involved in national politics.

Surely ambitions collide here, Libertas need some high profile candidates besides Ganley. Dunne is hardly going to make it as an indepedent or into another party?.

If he goes for national politics and he is sitting next to Micheal Lowry in the DE thats it we're just a cliche at that stage.

I'd be delighted if he was a Libertas candidate, but he has said before that he wouldn't be. I don't think he would be elected, Dublin beuing one of the toughest regions, but I've no doubt his would be a very interesting campaign.
