Roche regrets "distortion" of Giscard quote

Dick Roche is at it again. He is suggesting that the NO side distorted a quote from Giscard regarding the treaty. In fact as Lara Marlow (in spite of herself it has to be said) pointed out the quote referred to the underhand way the treaty was slipped past the French people. He further continues by saying “There was no attempt to hoodwink the public into accepting the treaty. It was and remains dishonest of opponents of the treaty to suggest that there is some hidden agenda behind the Lisbon Treaty.” *pause at this point for people to pick themselves up off the floor*

According to Dick we need Lisbon because“Since our referendum last June, the importance of the union, to Ireland and to Europe, has been highlighted many times over – by the events in Georgia last year, by the disruption of gas supplies from Russia in early January and most of all by the ongoing global economic and financial crisis.

“These major issues can only be handled properly by Europeans working intensively together within the EU.”

In fact the Georgia experience and the gas supply controversy highlighted the total absurdity of trying ti impose a one size fits all structure on the nations of Europe. I hope this guy heads the YES campaign next time around.

Come on, Dick is the best Anti campaigner there is.

I liked this little gem from today's paper:

This from the same guy that defended Bertie and his antics to the hilt! Some moral compass he's got!
