    Russia pulls the plug

Russia has decided to cut off all gas supplies that pass through Ukraine into Europe. The decision has left many European countries in a bad situation with an arctic snap hovering over Europe. Countries worst affected are Eastern and south-Eastern European nations. What effect will it have on us? There have been many here who have stated we are at the end of a very long pipeline, so surely by that reasoning we should now be hardest hit instead of the Eastern Europeans, yes?

Given the collapse in their oil revenue.
Turning the gas off to regular payers in western Europe is counterproductive to say the least.
Whats happening with that gaspipe that is supposed to be laid in the Baltic?
Puts the nonsense and indulgence of that shower in Rossport in perspective as well.
That gas off the west coast should be used in Ireland whatever Shell thinks by the way.
Because no one will do us any favours if the Siberian gas doesn't get to Ireland.
It will also be instructive to see how the energy blockade will be tackled by the EU.

Commies will find that what goes around comes around as they will struggle for customers in the future.

Has not been a real shock that this has occurred but clearly rest of EU was aware and hopefully have made some plans. Think the French Nuclear stations will be operating at full capacity for a few weeks.

Norwegian production likely to go through the roof for next couple of weeks.

Somehow i d'ont think Russia goes looking for customers, its the biggest gas producer of them all, with infrastructure to get it to market, mainly through Ukraine

Clearly, Europe d'ont have any plans otherwise there would'nt be any shortage which there clearly is.French nuclear power won't burn in my gas boiler or anybody else's for that matter.

We have a "emergency supply" in storage off the south coast, not sure how much but, its there. What price that gas will become should this continue is anyones guess.

This is a worrying development for all of us, unless Russia and Ukraine sort this out tensions will remain high, and somehow I think Putin is'nt afraid of a fight, as shown in Georgia.

On the plus side maybe now we can get on with finding viable alternatives rather than tauting the tried and failed expensive methods that are still being plugged... *cough* mostly by monied Greens whose ethical investment portfolios stand to get a healthy boost if they are taken on board whether they work or not *cough*

There is a trickle coming from the Kinsale field.
And a bunch of over indulged whingers stopping the Mayo field coming on shore.
Puts a bit of perspective on the subject.

Also big thanks to Ray Burke for signing away all the royalties if we find any big fields.

Around the time Cuba had that gas find I suggested we open trade talks with them.

Does anyone know if we sent a delegation?
