    Bye Sarkozy, Hello Klaus.

O well, in a cupla Lae the handover of the Presidency of the EU begins. I imagine
that it's going to be a bumpy one, but no matter. The following link contains
radio streams of interview/Bio on the incoming:

BBC NEWS | UK | Eurosceptic becomes EU President

I was not a great fan of Sarkozy, not least with regard to his horrible comments
on the Irish vote; and am generally unimpressed by professional politicians. But
I do remember being rebutted when I requested a Presidency of the EU Forum.
Thus if anyone wishes to make a comment on the Sarkozy era: please do.

For me it was marked by the Entente Formidable with the UK, the visual
propaganda of the Bastille day celebrations; and the rumours of a
Mediteranean Union. The close relation between Sarkozy and Bush would
not go unmentioned nor the rise of Oliver Martinon from Spokesperson
to political careerist with an unwonted technical interest in EU soft-security
policies. Of course Sarkozy's visit to the UK was dominated by the daily's
wrangling over the hemline and pillbox hat of Madame Sarkozy.

The defining political moments of Sarkozy's Presidency have to include the
ongoing conflict in Chad and the Irish rejection of the Lisbon Treaty. Irish papers,
which do not do Geo-Political analysis have neglected the close cooperation
between the Government of Zapatero and Sarkozy on the Imprisonment
of Eta members (which really wasn't commented on on P.ie either).

Many of the first world developed nations are agitating for a five year
presidency of the EU, this was supported by Sarkozy whom seemed to
push Tony Blair of the TBFF as his choice.

I would relish a bit of political analysis in both the Dáil and the Newspapers
    in 2009.

Sarkozy presidency over- shadows eurocrats in Brussels — EUbusiness.com - business, legal and economic news and information from the European Union

The EU sheet says the the Georgian Conflict was a defining moment in the six
month French Presidency which is describes as Bruising. I still reckon that the Lisbon Vote
was a defining moment in the Sarko Presidency. He was intimately involved in the 48 hour
renegotiation of Nice II which was for many of us a step too far.

Did President Sarkozy have any success as president of the council? Thankfully our No vote appeared to have restrained his more ambitious agenda that he spoke of but did not elaborate on.

    Meant to say 'Entente Cordiale'.

Did I anywhere say I support ETA? I alluded to the issue of
    cooperation...EU2009.cz - Homepage
