More Lisbon scaremongering from Micheal Martin

    From today's Independent.

Deal on Lisbon II 'still uncertain'

Asked if there is a timescale under discussion for a possible re-run of the vote, Mr Martin said it "obviously will feature in terms of the negotiations towards the end of the week and as far as we are concerned, one cannot contemplate that until we are satisfied that in any conclusions we arrive at next week, they will reflect the obvious and genuine concerns of the Irish people".

The Foreign Affairs Minister also made a very direct link between any future vote on the Lisbon Treaty and Ireland's membership of the EU.
    Vote yes or else...

    Also of note
Meanwhile, Libertas chief Declan Ganley hopes to upstage the Taoiseach at his crunch meetings in Brussels on Thursday and Friday. The Irish Independent understands that a major press conference is planned for their new headquarters in Brussels, at which Mr Ganley will outline plans for the European elections and their candidate line-up.
    A poster of some consequence...

I don't think a pan-European political party is a good idea. If it was a success it would inevitably be an agent of integration like the proposed Presidency.

I await with interest to see what Declan Ganley has in mind.

We should stop the mollycoddling. The government (and the other political parties) should just come out and say "there is no alternative", "if we reject Lisbon we will become pariahs and our EU membership will be jeopardised". "if yoy wanmt to see how well we'd do outside the EU", look at Iceland".
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Iceland is not the only country outside the EU. Why in particular should we look at them? Their problems are widely reported to have been caused by reckless banking practices leaving them badly exposed to the sub-prime crisis.

Suggesting that it was being outside the EU caused their problems is like blaming Hurricane Katrina on Louisiana's failure to adopt the euro.

There's about as much truth in that statement as "if we ratify Lisbon, three-year olds will be conscripted to give abortions at lesbian weddings".

Will Ganley at last come clean at this press conferences and explain where the funding for Libertas' referendum campaign cam from. Or is transparency and disclosure of political financing a step too far for him?

As for scaremongering, these people remaining in power scares me more than anything else.

If this indeed is what Martin said or inferred then he is lying to the public.

He should realise that underhand tactics such as this will only serve to make those of us opposed to Lisbon ever more resolute in our opposition because such deceptions remind us of the modus operandi of those advancing EU inegration. It was a Great Deception from the very start.
