Roche (on Newstalk) was highly critical of the fact that Klaus recorded that conversation.
Smart move though. Klaus has shown that he recognises a lynching party when he sees one.

The Telegraph's Bruno Waterfield blog entry on the "European Inquisition".

Lisbon Treaty: EU 'doesn't care about your opinions'

I don't know about you, but Brian Crowley's comments make me feel all warm inside. It seems HE knows what the Irish want more than the Irish do themsleves, seems the irony of him wrapping himself in the Irish flag and making comments like that is lost on him. I think that warm feeling is actually sick rising from my stomach.

Also an interesting link in the piece: LRB · Perry Anderson: Depicting Europe

Brian Crowley's da Flor was born in 1934 in Cork, was a rugby player in his youth, and became an auctioneer before going into politics in his early 30s. An unlikely revolutionary and secret member of the IRA during the Border Campaign, but that's them Bould Fenian Men of Fianna Fail for ya. Heroes of the nation, each and every one. And modest with it.

utter prat and got the smackdown he deserved for having the audacity to say he's speaking for the entire country. pillock.

good to peer behind the curtain for once. revealed the ugly ugly face of our lads in brussels. and it turns out he never did describe the gov as being like the soviets, pretty much the ONLY bit of info from this to hit the media propper.

funny that.

any chance the times or the indo will be reprinting this in full or will be getting the full on "dick"ing from our esteemed media commentators ?

still cheers for the links. been a real eye opener to see what class of rep we have. hopefully this is the start of a new, and for the EU terrifying , trend

Thats what the high standards of the Euro gravy train do to you.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

God he's a loathsome little slug Klaus

Reading the text, you can see how he is full of mock indignation because he knows he is addressing an invisible audience - his supporters - to whom he is pandering. If he was the only one aware that the meeting was being bugged then he was easily able to be provocative since he wasn't looking for any cooperation, merely trying to provoke confrontation.

It's hard to see how he can possibly participate in any other meetings unless he comes in naked to prove he isn't bugging it again.
