Time to withdraw from freedom of labour and establishment

With unemployment rocketing and the public purse ill equipped to pay benefits to non-nationals. Is it time to re-instate workpermits for all non-nationals and stop paying benefits. I think it very much is. Being "good europeans" is small comfort when there isnt enough money for basic public services and irishmen and women are out of work.

    Couldn't agree with you more!

Went into Blanch Centre Post Office last week - there were four staff behind the counter.

    One was Chinese

    One was African

    One was a NAS

    and one was Irish!

    I kid you not.

Well we could go the channel islands road and be members of the european community solely for the purposes of the free movement of goods and services. This would mean we could have free trade only. I think this i a realistic plank for a new political party.

Gawd, we're barely into the recession and you're already going down the "lets scapegoat the foreigners" route. Tragic.

These people worked, and contributed taxes, during the good time. If they are having difficulty now they not only deserve State help, they've earned it.

A lot of those people were working here 'off the record' and won't be entitled to anything.

    At least I hope so.

Don't mind ala Leo Vardakar's suggestion helping them go home though.

If someone is genuinely stuck here we could pay their flight home and say give them a months wages in their pocket so they hit the ground running kind of thing.

    But that's it.

We had one plank on another post arguing that we should let "them all in" because some Irish people immigrated in the past ! How moronic can people be - We are not the USA or Australia ! We are a small island with limited resources and jobs.

He even posted that "Irish people are lazy and won't do the jobs" - blatent anti-Irish racism without a word from the "moderators" - Like an Irish person trying to support a young family can work for peanuts like some economic migrant living 30 to a house in Crumlin and living on cold Swedish dumplings bought in bulk from Lidl......

Naturally all the Irish working in other EU member-states will have to apply for work permits.

If they don't succeed they'll have to leave and move back to Ireland.

All the Irish claiming benefits in other EU member-states will have to return to Ireland too.

That'll do wonders for our unemployment rate.

Yes, good idea. You do realise that it would require withdrawing from the European Union. No more nice lolly in the form of farm subsidies, structural funds etc etc etc.

    GREAT idea all together.
