PARIS, October 23 (RIA Novosti) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy has filed a suit with a Paris court demanding voodoo dolls bearing his likeness be withdrawn from sale, the France-Info radio station said on Thursday.
The 12.95 euro ($17) set includes a cloth voodoo doll, 12 pins, and an instruction manual, as well as a humorous biography of the president.
Sarkozy’s lawyer, Thierry Herzog, earlier threatened to take legal action against the Editions K & B Publishing House, saying that the president had “exclusive rights on his image.”
The company, which has issued 20,000 kits, said the president’s reaction was “totally disproportionate” and refused to recall the doll from shops.
According to the manual, the pins are supposed to be pierced into Sarkozy’s most famous quotes, including “he who works more, earns more” and “get lost you pathetic idiot.” The quotes are printed on the doll itself.
