Ganley's big mistake to date has been in not issuing proceedings for defamation against Gay Mitchell who started all this CIA funding talk. It has gained legs to such an extent that you have government ministers and the EP President openly alleging it. I note that that Ganley implies in the article that legal proceedings are coming. He needs to start with Mitchell and Roche but he could have killed it stone dead at the outset. What is being implied is that he is a traitor, he can't be so blaise about these smears as he has been to date.

Ah, yes. The traditional weapon of the Irish elite - the libel action.

Chris Andrews TD on Newstalk this morning is right - there's an over emphasis on Ganley in this debate, and the real issues that need to be addressed are the Irish peoples' concerns about Europe. The public are also well aware of the failure of FF and FG to disclose the source of most of their funding through below-disclosure-requirement donations. SIPO says they have only revealed 13% and 7% respectively of where their money is coming from. So people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and the only reaction from the majority of Irish voters to this issue when hearing Dick Roche banging on about it like a broken-record player again will be to hazard a smile if not to burst out laughing at the spectacle of FF questioning the ethics of another organisation's funding arrangements. The irony is not lost on us.

Thats a fairly dumb thing for Ganley to say - MEPs are protected from defamation litigation.

Whilst that is true the funding issue is important.
