EU Vote-Mary Lou refuses to support equal pay for equal work

In what is an unforgivable stab in the back to Irish workers and to the trade union movement, Mary Lou McDonald has refused to vote in favour of a motion calling for measures to "to safeguard and to strengthen equal treatment and equal pay for equal work in the same workplace".

The proposal would which was passed by the European Parliament Employment Committee seeks to respond the Laval, Viking, Rüffert and Luxembourg rulings of the European Court of Justice.

It came about as a result of an initiative by the Labour's Socialist grouping, but attracted broad support.

Somehow the 'left-wing', 'pro-worker' SF MEP could not bring herself to vote for it.

    Shame on her.

You're right to be sceptical, after all, the SF Press Office don't seem to have lashed out a press release on this out-and-out betrayal of workers' rights. (Funny that!)

Why don't you check with her office yourself. You'll get her at +32-2 28 45945.

Dear me - and after so much fuss was made over the Laval case during the referendum campaign, too.

    Red365,

I liked your opening post - its as dramatic as an Eastender's episode with all its talk of back stabbing and refusals. High drama but ultimately little content and well its poorly scripted.

I followed the link you provided and there is not much detail there about the report. What is it, avoiding the listed bland generalisations, that is so good about the report? You've provided nothing but a link to a brief summary.

Why dont you come back with real meat for discussion and then the humble citizens of Politics.ie can work out what really happened or alternatively stop spinning so hard cause your going to make folks dizzy.

Here's the report, and here are the amendments.
