Dept Foreign Affairs' Lisbon Plan B? Nice!

Is this a sign that the Dept. Foreign Affairs thinks Lisbon is dead?

They have registered a website url - http://www.eu2013.ie - for use during the next Irish presidency of the EU. This would only be useful if Nice is still in force five years from now,

In other news, the Dept hopes to have "clarity" on Lisbon by the end of December. In other words, as soon as France's presidency is over.

Us no people arent going to dance on lisbon's grave just yet. The possibility of it being dead are growing but we can't make the mistake of the french no campaign who disbanded after the referendum and were caught by surprise when sarko's "mini treaty" turned out be the nearly all of the Constitution.

Your dead right there. Lessons of the past should be heeded and a close eye on the ball is needed in these times.

We won't drop lisbon because ireland voted agains it.
We could change it but that won't happen either.

And even tho everyone saying yea if they got the change they would vote agains it.
They don't remember that more people voted for than agains: on the 2005 referendum.

    Two options left:
1: Boot out ireland and all other countries who didn't ratified it.
2: A two speed europe (I like this idea)
Still, even as the investor consensus ravages the euro, it's worth remembering that the same herd instinct not long ago was pronouncing last rites for the dollar. Last year, as China's central bank chief called for a new global currency and Russian central bankers dumped greenbacks to buy euros, many saw the dollar's decline as inevitable. Now, the dollar is riding high, and the euro looks bedraggled.

Despite the stake through the heart, the holy water, the garlic there are some linering signs of life so we must be watchful.

Agreed. If we can keep the continent-wide single market without being submerged in a political union we will have the best of both worlds.

I think it's a realistic goal provided the ideological integrationists in Merrion Street and Foreign Affairs are shunted into a siding and replaced with pragmatists who will put Irish interests first.
