French President - Lisbon - Ireland will have to vote again

Could not seem to post on the Lisbon thread. Please feel free to move mods!

Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere.

The French President today said that Ireland will have to vote again on Lisbon. So now we have, from a Frenchman, confirmation of what we suspected.

    It'll never happen.

Declan Ganley and Mary Lou McDonald are going to re-negotiate the Treaty and then ask the 26 other EU nations to re-ratify it.

Sarkozy obviously didn't get the memo.

Come on Cowen, just ratify it through the Oireachtas and have the President send it to the SC.

Expect a bit of "We'll never give way on points a,b or c... oh alright then you Irish drive a hard bargain, you got it. Now vote again you wily Irish and approve the hard fought concessions your government won"
That sort of posturing will almost certainly happen, to hype up any worthless reassurances tacked on to Lisbon.

Its the EU. What did you expect? Democracy? Imagine how the French would feel if in 2005 Tony Blair told them they had to vote again. This is intolerable interference in the internal affairs of a sovreign country. Will our Taoiseach teell him this I wonder?

There is no other option for these gangsters to pursue and this option
is going to be a very difficult sell as they're not offering anything
in the way of concessions. Over 53% of the electorate voted on this.
It's over boys. Lisbon is finished as per your own directives.

Gives us another chance to tell him what to do with his treaty. The cheek
