    Is Dubya mentally retarded? (Kosovo)

The day before yesterday US Administration has authorized an arms deal with Kosovo to "provide for stability and ensure the piece in the region". I was not aware shipping of guns to a fragile place was needed to "ensure the piece", however other thing bothers me most. As we know Kosovo is bound to remain under NATO-KFOR occupation for foreseeable future, thus what is the point of those arms shipments? To organize an effective ethnic cleansing with the hands of Albanians as NATO would not dare to do just that with their own hands?

It is curious the news of US shipping guns just after one month following independence proclamation is suppressed from all English-speaking media like BBC and CNN, so I can't provide the direct link with the statement, but here are some reactions of the parties affected:

Russia calls for a meeting with NATO
    Koštunica denounces Bush arms delivery

Utterly stupid. What point? What is achieved? Are they trying to provoke and fuel divisions in Europe?

I hate to be the cynic but every war is an oppurtunity to do business.
Even the Iraq / Afgan War whilst costing the american taxpayer trillions of dollars, represents an oppurtunity for the Arms Industry.

After all the bullets are fired and the missiles released and equipment trashed, there will be a huge amount of "re-stocking" to do.

New weapons, new ammunition, new equipment etc etc.

It does'nt take a genius to see that American armanents industries need wars. How else are to turn a profit?

Well stocked American armies are shag all use if no one ever uses the stuff.

Also wars are by far the best testing grounds for new equipment. you can run simulations or excercises till the cows come home but 5 years in the desert with constant use will tell you how good your gear is and what improvements can be made.

Again, I dont want to be a cynic but.......

Hiker - but Kosovo is dirt-poor, and doesn't have any money. And it is small, thus, does not look like a lucrative buyer anyway. I am afraid Dubya will have to present those guns as an Easter gift, otherwise Albanians cannot afford it. So your parallel with Iraq does not apply - there American taxpayers paid to arms contractors to supply Pentagon. Here the arms will go not to Pentagon but to KLA.

Its still the american taxpayer paying American Arms companies.
As you said, the Kosovars are stoney broke, like the Afgans and the Iraqis.

when you think that the US spends more money on Defence (read Arms) than the next ten countries combined you must understand that the US not only fights these wars, but arms nearly everyone in them too.

What happens is is that the Yanks will loan money to the Kosovars - who will then use the money to buy the weaponry - the money will never get repaid and US will have the Kosovars on a lead - of course the US taxpayer foots the bill Real politik Im afraid.

Don't forget to mention that the muslim Kosovars (or their 'brothers') will eventually use these weapons to kill Americans - somewhere.
